Jeff Parker, the former SVP and managing director of Marqeta, recently got hired as the new CEO at Paymentology, the global card issuer and processor.
Paymentology is a company that covers both the issuance and processing of cards for banks, including physical and virtual ones. It also provides its services to fintechs and telcos, offering debit cards, credit cards, as well as prepaid cards. On top of that, the company also ventured into the BNPL sector.
Earlier this year, in May, the company’s acting CEO, Rowan Brewer, was elevated to the position of chairmanship. The firm did not hire his replacement right away, but instead, it continued operating with interim co-CEOs — Angy Watson and Abe Smith.
Now, Parker will officially take on the position. Before coming to Paymentology, he served as the SVP at Marqeta, where he was responsible for building the firm’s go-to-market and operational functions internally. Another one of his tasks was to advance the firm’s service offerings in its key markets across both Europe and the Asia Pacific (APAC) region.
Jeff Parker’s lengthy career
Before working at Marqeta, Parker was the CEO at international payments firm called World First. While holding this position, he was driving the company’s international expansion in advance of its sale to Ant Group, a major firm headquartered in China. However, before becoming the CEO at WorldFirst, he started as a Managing Director for APAC, holding this position between April 2017 and September 2019.
After that, he became the CCO at the firm for about six months, and then the Group Managing Director for another nine months. From there, he became the Company Director, and eventually the CEO.
Parker also spent nearly a year and a half as a non-executive director at NomuPay, and he worked as a strategic advisor at Stake for about seven years — between January 2017 and now.
Another quite noteworthy experience from the past was being the Chief Enterprise Officer at OFX. This is another company where Parker spent multiple years, and changed several positions, eventually climbing the corporate ladder to the top.
Before that, he held positions at Macquarie Bank, JP Morgan, and Accenture. In other words, he has a lengthy career which enabled valuable experience that he will now be able to utilize at his new position at Paymentology.
Commenting on his new role, he said: “My focus will be on building Paymentology’s position as the global neo-processor of choice for fintechs, telcos, corporates and challenger banks. Together, we will continue our growth trajectory, ensuring that Paymentology continues to provide next-generation payment solutions on a global scale.”
