SIX is launching eBill Direct Debit, a digital direct debit solution, at the end of June 2025.
This is based on the eBill infrastructure and offers invoice issuers a modern, account-based collection method with familiar functions such as the payer’s right to object.
eBill Direct Debit supports all functionalities of typical account-based direct debit solutions and offers a digital login process for the payer – in the secure environment of online banking. With eBill Direct Debit, payment requests from invoice issuers are submitted and processed, and payments are automatically collected from the payer – all via eBill.
Transactions are based on a digital direct debit and collection authorization previously set up in eBill. Payments are processed directly from account to account and can be supplemented with additional information. eBill Direct Debit can be used for both large amounts and business-to-business receivables. Additionally, eBill Direct Debit offers invoice recipients increased security thanks to the integrated recall option with guaranteed repayment.
Analog clients have access to the familiar and established payment methods such as QR bills, standing orders, and individual payment orders. Furthermore, SIX will offer an extension of eBill Direct Debit for analog invoice recipients, allowing financial institutions to register their customers on their behalf and sign them up with invoice issuers. The prerequisite for this is that the respective financial institution supports this method and offers it to its customers.
SIX has based eBill Direct Debit on the existing and proven infrastructure of eBill. Many functionalities, interfaces, and mechanisms are replicated. This significantly simplifies implementation for all participants and familiar processes remain unchanged, benefiting both businesses and private individuals. More than half of Swiss households already use eBill. This enables seamless digital receipt and payment of invoices, which creates significant benefits for individuals, businesses, and the Swiss economy as a whole.
eBill Direct Debit was designed, implemented, and piloted by SIX in close collaboration with financial institutions in order to meet the diverse demands of a digital direct debit solution. eBill Direct Debit therefore meets all the criteria for broad market adoption.
