Sometimes, it’s hard to see the signs in our own behavior that suggest a lack of self-respect. We may not even realize we’re letting others take advantage of us, or that we’re not giving ourselves the credit we deserve.
Without self-respect, we tend to fall into patterns of behavior that can be self-destructive and harmful. We might dismiss our own needs, settle for less than we deserve, or let others treat us poorly.

I remember once, I had a friend who would constantly cancel plans at the last minute. Each time, I would brush it off, thinking it wasn’t a big deal. I told myself that they were just busy, and I didn’t want to seem needy or demanding.
But after a while, I started to notice a pattern. They would only make plans with me when it was convenient for them, and they didn’t seem to consider my feelings or my time valuable.
It was then that I realized I was accepting poor treatment from them because I didn’t respect myself enough to demand better. I was so worried about coming off as difficult that I forgot to stand up for myself.
