JABALPUR: In a fraud to the tune of around Rs 1.99 crore, more than 83 consumers had deposited fake gold and availed gold loan from a private bank in Jabalpur. The matter came to surface during audit, when on this suspicion a few samples of the gold were examined through authorized jewellery examiners of the bank.
SP Jabalpur, Aditya Pratap Singh informed that a complaint was received by the management of the bank that audit of the gold mortgaged for availing loan was done by the bank. When the gold was found to be suspicious during the audit, it’s purity was tested by the official examiners of the bank—the borrowers were also summoned by issuing notices but they did not turn up. The jewellery was found to be duplicate during examination, he informed.
During the examination it was found that loan worth Rs 1.99 crore taken against 83 loan accounts was done depositing fake gold, he added.
A case has been registered at civil lines police station of the district and investigation is on, Singh said. Team was constituted for investigation and two accused Ankit Saini, 33 and Pankaj Vishwakarma, 30, have been arrested, they were produced before court and have been taken in police remand wherein investigations are on, said police.
