Ahmedabad: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, on Saturday, chaired a high-level review meeting to advance India’s first International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) at GIFT City in Gandhinagar. The finance minister underlined the importance of all stakeholders recognizing and supporting avenues that can elevate GIFT City into a premier global financial hub.
“GIFT City should be a global leader in solving complex financial challenges, especially amid current global economic headwinds,” she said.
Sitharaman underscored the significance of IFSC Authority (IFSCA) and IRDAI engaging proactively with prominent international insurance companies to establish GIFT City as a premier global hub for insurance and reinsurance.
“Since GIFT IFSC has been recognized as a fast-moving International Financial Centre, we should prioritize attracting more business and creating large-scale investment,” Sitharaman said.
The minister also urged for the optimal utilization of the potential within the India International Bullion Exchange (IIBX) to ensure streamlined transactions and efficient price discovery.
