India’s financial markets, Nifty and Sensex, experienced a fall during the first trading session of 2024.
By 9:16 am, the NSE Nifty 50 witnessed a 0.08% decrease, reaching 21,713.50 points, and concurrently, the S&P BSE Sensex recorded a 0.17% drop, settling at 72,118.70.
Among the Sensex-listed firms, Hindustan Unilever, Mahindra & Mahindra, Wipro, Axis Bank, Tata Consultancy Services, NTPC, HDFC Bank, and Kotak Mahindra Bank emerged as underperformers.
On the winning side, Tata Motors, Nestle, IndusInd Bank, and Power Grid secured notable gains.
Asian markets remained closed on Monday in observance of the New Year. Meanwhile, the US markets concluded Friday with marginal losses.
Exchange data reveals that Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) exhibited bullish behavior, acquiring equities worth Rs 1,459.12 crore on Friday.
