Pune: Claims totalling at least Rs 369.78 crore in 1.40 lakh cases were settled at the National Lok Adalat in the district on Sunday.
The Pune District Legal Services Authority (PDLSA) had taken up 2.43 lakh cases for settlement in the Lok Adalat. Of these, 1.40 lakh cases were settled amicably after the parties in disputes entered into compromise and got their cases settled before 140 panel judges. The cases settled include pre- and post-litigations.
PDLSA secretary Sonal Patil said, “We held series of meetings with the litigants and urged them to settle their compoundable cases, including criminal, civil, bank recovery, power bills as well as labour disputes.”
Speaking about traffic challan cases, Patil said, “The help desk set up by the PDLSA at the traffic branch office in Yerawada enabled 10,854 violators to settle their disputes. Fines worth Rs 2 crore were collected… Lok Adalats save time to serve summons /warrants for securing presence of the violators/accused before the court.”
