Circle’s July 2024 updates include Social Logins, Email OTP for Programmable Wallets, and an ‘enum’ update for Solana API endpoints.

Circle has announced significant updates to its Web3 services in July 2024, aimed at enhancing the developer experience on its Programmable Wallets platform. According to Circle, these updates include the introduction of Social Logins, Email OTP (one-time password) authentication, and an ‘enum’ update for API endpoints to align with Metaplex standards on the Solana blockchain.

New Onboarding and Authentication Methods

The latest update introduces Social Logins and Email OTP, streamlining the onboarding process and providing a more seamless transaction experience for users. These features are designed to help developers implement faster and more efficient user-controlled wallet systems. Circle offers a free tier for the first 1,000 Monthly Active Wallets, with reduced fee tiers as usage scales.

API Updates for Solana

In an effort to maintain compatibility with Metaplex standards, Circle has updated the token standard ‘enum’ for fungible tokens on the Solana blockchain from ‘FT’ to ‘Fungible’. This change affects several API endpoints, including:

  • GET wallets/{id}/balances
  • GET wallets/{id}/nfts
  • GET tokens/{id}
  • GET config/entity/monitoredTokens
  • POST config/entity/monitoredTokens
  • PUT config/entity/monitoredTokens

Developers utilizing these endpoints should review the changes to understand how their projects may be impacted.

Circle Technology Services, LLC (“CTS”) offers these services, although it is not a regulated financial services company. The APIs provided do not include financial, investment, tax, legal, regulatory, accounting, business, or other advice.
