The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has updated its e-mandate regulations to allow automatic top-ups for FASTag and National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) accounts. This change enables auto-replenishment as soon as the account balance drops below a customer-set threshold, eliminating the previous requirement for a 24-hour advance notice before any debit.

Under the new rules, which were initially announced in June, the RBI has included auto-replenishment of FASTag and NCMC under the e-mandate framework. This means that customers will no longer need to wait for a pre-debit notification for these recurring payments. The payments, being recurring in nature but lacking a fixed schedule, are now exempt from the pre-debit alert requirement.

“It has been decided to include auto-replenishment of FASTag and NCMC, as and when the balance falls below a threshold set by the customer, under the e-mandate framework. Payments for auto-replenishment, since they are recurring in nature but without any fixed periodicity, will be exempt from the requirement of pre-debit notification,” RBI said in the circular.

This update is intended to simplify the process for users, ensuring that their FASTag and NCMC balances are smoothly replenished without delays, enhancing convenience for commuters and other users reliant on these payment systems.
