The government has announced that the 18th Installment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme will be released on 5th October 2024. It is one of the largest DBT schemes in the world. Under this scheme, farmers will get a financial benefit of upto Rs 6000 per annum in three installments of Rs 2000 each.
“PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi has emerged as the world’s largest direct benefit transfer scheme. Rs 3.25 lakh crore has been disbursed till now to bank accounts of farmers and of this Rs 700 cr has been given to farmers of Varanasi alone,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi said during the release of the 17th Installment of the scheme in June.

What is the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi Scheme?
The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) is a Central Government scheme providing income support to landholding farmer families across India. It helps meet agricultural and domestic needs, with the Government of India fully covering the financial costs.
Under the PM-KISAN scheme, all landholding farmers’ famities shall be provided the financial benefit of Rs.6000 per annum per family payable in three equal instalments of Rs.2000 each, every four months.
What is the 18th Instalment Date for the PM Kisan scheme?
The government has announced that the 18th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme will be released on 5th October 2024.
What is the eligibility criteria?
All landholding farmers’ families, which have cultivable land holding in their names are eligible to get benefit under the scheme.
The following categories are not eligible for benefits under the scheme:
- Institutional landholders.
- Farmer families with any member who is:
– A former or current holder of a constitutional post.
– A former or current Minister, Member of Parliament, State Legislative Assembly/Council, Mayor, or District Panchayat Chairperson.
-Serving or retired officers and employees of Central/State Governments, Public Sector Enterprises, Autonomous Institutions, and Local Bodies (except Multi-Tasking Staff/Class IV/Group D employees).
-Pensioners receiving a monthly pension of Rs. 10,000 or more (except Multi-Tasking Staff/Class IV/Group D employees).
-Individuals who paid income tax in the last assessment year.
-Professionals (Doctors, Engineers, Lawyers, Chartered Accountants, and Architects) registered with professional bodies, practising their profession.
How to do the mandatory eKYC for the PM Kisan scheme?There are 3 modes by which a farmer can apply for eKYC under the PM-KISAN scheme: OTP-based eKYC, biometric-based eKYC, and face authentication through the PM-KISAN mobile app.
OTP Based e-KYC
For OTP based eKYC Aadhaar has to be linked to an active mobile number. After ensuring this they can follow the given steps:
- Visit the PM-KISAN portal (https://pmkisan.gov.in/)
- Click on e-KYC (on the top right corner of the website)
- Enter the given Aadhaar number and complete the eKYC after submitting the given OTP
Biometric based e-KYC:
Common Service Centres (CSC), and various State Seva Kendras (SSK) are available across the country to provide their services at the neighbourhoods of the farmers. For this follow the given steps:
- Visit the nearest CSC/SSK with given Aadhaar Card and Aadhaar linked mobile number
- The CSC/SSK operator will assist in performing biometric authentication using Aadhaar-based verification

e-KYC through Face-authentication:
eKYC can also be done conveniently via mobile, for this follow the given steps:
- Download the PM-KISAN mobile app and Aadhaar Face RD app from Google Play Store
- Open the app and login through given PM-KISAN registered mobile number
- Land on the beneficiary status page
- If eKYC status is “No”, click on the eKYC, then enter the given Aadhaar number.
- Consent to scan one’s face
- After a successful face scan, eKYC is completed.
How to check PM Kisan payment status & account balance?
To check for PM Kisan payment status and account balance, follow the given steps:
- Visit the website and navigate to the ‘Farmers Corner,’ then select ‘Know Your Status.’
- On the new page, click ‘Know Your Registration Number.’
- Choose the ‘Search by Aadhaar Number’ option, enter Aadhaar details and captcha, and click ‘Get Mobile OTP.’
- Enter the OTP received on the mobile to retrieve the registration number.
- Input the registration number and captcha, then click ‘Get OTP’ for verification.
The instalment details will appear on the screen, allowing one to view comprehensive information about their beneficiary status and the previous instalments received.
