NVIDIA’s AI technology helps Indian enterprises develop multilingual models, enhancing accessibility for over a billion speakers of local languages, including Hindi.

In India, a nation with a rich tapestry of languages and dialects, enterprises are leveraging advanced AI models to bridge the digital divide. According to NVIDIA Blog, local startups and major companies are utilizing large language models (LLMs) to make technology more accessible to over a billion speakers of India’s diverse languages.

Advancements in Sovereign AI

India’s push towards digitalization has seen the development of multilingual AI models that allow Indians to interact with technology in their native tongues. This initiative is part of a broader strategy known as sovereign AI, which involves creating AI systems built on local data and reflecting regional languages and cultures. NVIDIA has played a pivotal role in this movement by releasing a small language model for Hindi, the country’s most widely spoken language.

NVIDIA’s Contributions and Collaborations

NVIDIA’s contribution to India’s AI landscape includes the Nemotron-4-Mini-Hindi-4B, a model designed to optimize performance on NVIDIA GPU-accelerated systems. This technology is already being utilized by Tech Mahindra, which has developed Indus 2.0, an AI model focusing on Hindi and its dialects. This model is set to be showcased at the NVIDIA AI Summit in Mumbai, highlighting its potential across various sectors such as banking, education, and healthcare.

Expanding AI Accessibility

In addition to Hindi, NVIDIA’s AI Enterprise platform supports a variety of Indic languages, enabling companies like Sarvam AI to offer multilingual AI solutions. Sarvam AI’s Sarvam 1, India’s first indigenous multilingual LLM, supports English and ten major Indian languages. Similarly, Gnani.ai has developed a speech-to-speech LLM that facilitates real-time voice interactions for customer service in India and the U.S.

Broad Industry Integration

Leading enterprises and startups are integrating NVIDIA’s AI technology into their operations. Flipkart is enhancing its AI systems’ safety with NeMo Guardrails, while Krutrim and Zoho Corporation are developing foundational and language models for diverse applications. Global systems integrators like Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, and Wipro are also deploying NVIDIA’s AI solutions, creating customized language models to serve various industry needs.

These developments underscore the critical role of NVIDIA’s AI technologies in empowering Indian enterprises to harness the power of local language models, thereby making technology more inclusive and accessible across the nation.
