Do you ever feel like life is just a series of empty days, with no real purpose or direction?

Maybe you wake up every morning and go through the motions, but something inside you feels off—like you’re stuck in a rut with no way out.

If this sounds familiar, it’s possible that the habits you’ve developed over time are contributing to this feeling of emptiness.

You might not realize it, but certain behaviors can keep you trapped in a cycle of dissatisfaction and confusion.

In this article, we’ll explore 8 common habits that might be preventing you from finding meaning and how letting go of them could be the key to living a more fulfilling life.

1) Living in autopilot mode

We often find ourselves going through the motions of life without truly experiencing it. We wake up, go to work, come home, and repeat the cycle, living in a state of autopilot.

This habitual disconnection from the present moment can leave us feeling hollow and detached from our own existence.

Life is not a rehearsal—it’s happening right here, right now. To fully experience its richness, we need to consciously engage with it.

This means making deliberate choices instead of mindlessly following routines and expectations. It involves taking a moment to breathe, observe, and truly participate in our own lives.

I’ve noticed that when I’m stuck in autopilot mode, I’m not truly living. I’m merely existing. And existence without awareness is like watching a movie without really seeing it.

2) Being a passive participant in your life

Many of us are guilty of letting life happen to us, rather than actively shaping it according to our desires and values.

We sit back, waiting for opportunities to come our way, rather than seeking them out. We let external circumstances dictate our choices, our mood, and even our sense of self-worth.

I’ve been there too. It’s easy to fall into the trap of passivity, especially when life gets tough.

But I’ve realized that true empowerment comes from taking charge of my own life, making conscious decisions aligned with my values, and taking responsibility for my own happiness.”

Don’t just exist in your life—actively participate in it. Shape it according to your values and desires. You’re the author of your own story.

3) Remaining bound by societal conditioning

Many of us unknowingly let societal norms and expectations dictate our lives.

We conform to these invisible rules without questioning if they truly align with our authentic selves. This can rob us of our individuality and freedom, leaving us feeling unfulfilled and disconnected from our true selves.

I’ve experienced this conditioning and its debilitating effects. But I’ve also discovered a powerful tool that can help us break free from these invisible chains: the “Free Your Mind” masterclass with the shaman Rudá Iandê.

In this masterclass, Rudá guides you through exercises that dismantle societal myths and mental barriers, fostering greater authenticity and freedom in your life. It’s about developing a personal cosmovision and breaking free from cultural conditioning.

I was deeply involved in producing this masterclass because I believe in its power to transform lives. And I invite you to join the masterclass and experience it for yourself.

4) Ignoring your authentic self

In our quest to fit in and meet societal expectations, we often suppress our authentic selves.

We hide our true thoughts, feelings, and desires, fearing rejection or judgment.

This disconnection from who we truly are can result in a life that feels empty and unfulfilled.

It’s not easy to show up authentically in a world that constantly tries to mold us into something else. But it’s essential for a meaningful life.

When we honor our authenticity, we align our actions with our values and desires, leading to a sense of fulfillment and purpose.

I’ve discovered that the more I embrace my authentic self, the more meaningful my life becomes.

But it requires courage and honesty—to confront the fear of rejection, to challenge societal norms, and to embrace who you truly are.

Are you living your life as your authentic self? Or are you wearing a mask shaped by societal expectations?

5) Equating wealth with prosperity

We live in a world that often equates wealth with success. We’re taught to pursue financial wealth as a primary goal, leading many of us to believe that prosperity is all about accumulating money.

But this is a narrow view of prosperity.

True prosperity isn’t just about financial wealth. It’s about living in alignment with our deepest values and using our resources as tools for positive change. It involves cultivating a sense of purpose, creativity, and ethical participation in the economy.

When we align our financial decisions with our values, we experience a richer sense of fulfillment and purpose.

Prosperity isn’t defined by how much you have in your bank account. It’s defined by the richness of your life and your contributions to the world. You are not worth your weight in gold, but in the positive impact you make.

6) Avoiding confronting your fears

Fears can be paralyzing. They can keep us stuck in our comfort zones, preventing us from pursuing our dreams and living a fulfilling life.

Many of us spend our lives avoiding situations that trigger our fears, unknowingly limiting our growth and potential.

In my own life, I’ve found that confronting my fears head-on is one of the most empowering actions I can take. It’s not easy—it’s uncomfortable, challenging, and sometimes even painful. But it’s also incredibly liberating.

By facing our fears, we challenge our limiting beliefs and open ourselves to new possibilities. We learn more about ourselves, develop resilience, and become more capable of creating the life we desire.

If your life feels empty, ask yourself: Are your fears holding you back? Are you avoiding situations that make you uncomfortable?

The conventional definition of success often revolves around individual achievements—wealth, power, status. While these can bring a sense of accomplishment, they can also isolate us from others and foster a competitive mindset.

I’ve come to realize that the true measure of success lies not in what I achieve for myself but in how I contribute to the well-being of others.

This involves building supportive communities and nurturing authentic relationships.

So if you’re feeling disconnected or unfulfilled, reflect on how you define success.

Are you focusing solely on individual achievements? Or are you cultivating meaningful relationships and contributing to your community?

Real success is about both personal accomplishment and collective well-being.

8) Viewing failure as a setback rather than an opportunity

Society often teaches us to fear failure. We’re conditioned to view it as a sign of weakness or incompetence.

This fear can keep us from taking risks and pursuing our dreams, leading to a life that feels safe but unfulfilled.

In my journey, I’ve learned to embrace failure not as a setback but as an opportunity for growth and learning.

Every misstep, every mistake, is a chance to learn, adapt, and evolve. It’s an invitation to tap into our creative potential and find innovative solutions.

If life feels meaningless, consider your attitude towards failure. Are you avoiding risks for fear of failing? Or are you embracing failure as an opportunity for learning and growth?

Breaking free

When life feels meaningless or empty, it’s often the result of habits we don’t even realize are holding us back.

By letting go of these 8 behaviors, you can start shifting your mindset, rediscovering your sense of purpose, and creating a life that feels more fulfilling.

Change takes time, but each small step you take toward breaking free from these limiting habits brings you closer to a life that truly matters

If you’re ready to delve deeper into these concepts and truly free your mind, I highly recommend the “Free Your Mind” masterclass with Rudá Iandê. This masterclass, which I had the privilege of helping to produce, is designed to help you break free from limiting beliefs and societal conditioning.
