Declining CASA ratio (Current Account Savings Account) is getting all the way more challenging for banks as we go, rising credit-deposit (CD) ratio that rose to 75.8% in 2023 is just another problem, increasing funding costs and limiting liquidity. Meanwhile, gross non-performing assets (NPAs), which peaked at a worrying 11.5% in FY18, have shown positive signs and fallen significantly in the recent past, due regards to improved asset quality. Alongside these developments, we see shifting consumer behaviors such as the increasing adoption of Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) schemes, changing savings habits, preference for convenience and customisation, growing credit card usage and more. As these trends converge, the BFSI sector must adapt to remain resilient, making this an opportune moment to explore what lies ahead in the NextGen Economy.
