Standard Chartered announced today that Roberto Hoornweg has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB).
Mr Hoornweg, previously Co-Head, CIB alongside Sunil Kaushal, takes up the role following Sunil’s decision to retire after 27 years with the Bank on 31 March, 2026.
Mr Hoornweg retains oversight of the Group’s markets in the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. Oversight of ASEAN and South Asia markets, which previously sat with Sunil, will transition to Judy Hsu in addition to her responsibilities as CEO, Wealth and Retail Banking (WRB) and oversight of the Bank’s Greater China and North Asia Markets. Both Judy and Roberto sit on the Group Management Team.
Roberto Hoornweg has more than 30 years’ experience across the banking industry. He joined Standard Chartered in 2017 as Global Head of Financial Markets, leading the teams that provide some of the world’s largest corporates and financial institutions with risk management, transaction services, financing and research in fixed income, currencies and commodities across more than 50 markets. Before joining Standard Chartered, he held senior roles at firms including Brevan Howard Asset Management, UBS Investment Bank, and Morgan Stanley.
Bill Winters, Group Chief Executive, Standard Chartered, said:
“I would like to thank Sunil for his significant contribution to the Group over nearly three decades. I likewise wish to congratulate Roberto, who has played a significant part in CIB’s growth in recent years, on stepping into the CEO role as we continue to deliver our cross-border strategy.”
