A total of 20.51 crore jobs are reported by MSMEs on the Udyam Registration Portal and Udyam Assist Platform, said the Union Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Jitan Ram Manjhi.
As per data available on Udyam registration and Udyam Assist Platform, employment is reported to be 7.44 crore in FY2023-24 as compared to the employment reported during FY2021-22 (3.49 crore).
Since 2020, 18,20,59,798 jobs were registered on Udyam Registration Portal while 2,36,23,241 on Udyam Assist Platform.
As of July 24, 2024, 20,56,83,039 jobs were registered in the MSME sector.
In FY2023-24, 7,51,13,797 employment were registered on the Udyam Registration Portal while 2,22,90,752 on Udyam Assist Platform totalling 9,74,04,549 jobs.
In FY2022-23, 4,46,95,314 employment were registered on the Udyam Registration Portal while 13,32,489 on Udyam Assist Platform totalling 4,60,27,803 jobs.
Employment under PMEGP:
Further, under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), the average annual estimated employment generation during the last three years is 7.4 lakh.
As per the data, in FY2023-24, 89,118 MSMEs were assisted under the scheme generating 7,12,944 jobs.
In FY2022-23, 85,167 MSMEs were assisted under the scheme generating 6,81,336 jobs while in FY2021-22, 1,03,219 MSMEs were assisted under the scheme generating 8,25,752 jobs.
What are the government schemes for MSME employment generation?
Government is implementing different schemes and programmes like Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS), Pt. Deen Dayal Upadhayaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), Rural Self-Employment and Training Institute (RSETIs), Deen Dayal Antodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihood Mission (DAY-NULM), Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY), etc. to generate employment including in MSME sector.
Further, the MSME implements various schemes and programmes aimed at promotion and development of the sector, thereby creating more jobs.
These schemes and programmes include Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), Micro and Small Enterprises – Cluster Development Programme (MSE-CDP), Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance (RAMP), among others.
