In September 2024, banks will remain closed for 15 days in various states, including the second and fourth Saturdays as well as Sundays. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) releases a monthly list of bank holidays to ensure that customers are not inconvenienced and can plan their banking tasks accordingly.

September 2024 bank holidays

Banks will be closed on the occasion of Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva, Ganesh Chaturthi, First Onam, Milad-un-Nabi or Id-e Milad, Indrajatra/Id-e-Milad, Pang-Lhabsol, Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi, Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day, Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji.

September bank holiday state-wise list

  • September 4 (Wednesday)- Tirubhav Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva- Banks are closed in Assam.
  • September 7 (Saturday)- Ganesh Chaturthi/- banks are closed in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Orissa, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Goa on Ganesh Chaturthi.
  • September 14 Second Saturday-Karma Puja/First Onam- Banks are closed all over the country.
  • September 16 (Monday)- Id-e Mila- Banks are closed in Gujarat, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Uttara Khand, Andra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Jammu, Kerala, Uttara Pradesh, New Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand.
  • September 17 (Tuesday) Indrajatra/Id-e-Milad (Milad-Un-Nabi) – Banks are closed in Sikkim, Chhattisgarh.
  • September 18 (Wednesday) – Pang-Lhabsol- Banks are closed in Sikkim.
  • September 20 (Friday) Friday following Eid-i-Milad-ul-Nabi- Banks closed in Jammu and Srinagar.
  • September 21 (Saturday)- Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi Day- Banks are closed in Kerala.
  • September 23 (Monday)- Birthday of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji- Banks are closed in Jammu and Srinagar.

Source: RBI websiteThe Reserve Bank of India (RBI) designates certain holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays, and Banks’ Closing of Accounts. On these specified holidays, bank operations cannot be done and no physical banking services are available. However, banks customers can make use of internet banking, SMS banking, Whatsapp banking services for financial and non financial transactions.
