UK based online broker CMC Markets plc (LON:CMCX) has announced its intention to apply for accreditation as an NZX Trading and Clearing Participant in 2025.
CMC Markets said it intends to lodge an application for accreditation as an NZX Trading and Clearing Participant with NZ RegCo, the independently governed entity responsible for monitoring and enforcing compliance by listed issuers and accredited market participants with NZX’s market rules.
The announcement was made today at NZX’s Capital Markets Centre in Auckland, attended by CMC Markets Chief Executive and Founder Lord Peter Cruddas, CMC Markets New Zealand General Manager Chris Smith, and NZX Chief Executive Mark Peterson.
Mark Peterson says NZX is excited by CMC Markets’ plans,
“We would welcome CMC Markets as a participant in NZX’s markets. Their intention demonstrates the attractiveness of New Zealand’s capital markets to participants and provides more opportunities for overseas investors, who utilise CMC Markets’ online trading, to invest in New Zealand-listed companies.
“It was our pleasure to host Lord Cruddas at the NZX offices in Auckland today and we look forward to our organisations working closely together in the years ahead.”
Chris Smith emphasised CMC Markets commitment to replicating its success in Australia by building out scale once the foundations are in place, with new opportunities in the local market,
“We’ve seen what’s possible when we establish a strong base and then scale it up. Our experience in Australia has set a benchmark, and we’re excited about bringing this growth mindset to New Zealand.”
Lord Cruddas says CMC Markets has been based in New Zealand for nearly 20 years and is committed to the local market,
“We are excited to apply to be a NZX Participant and look forward to building a strong partnership with NZX.
“In Australia, we have been a successful ASX participant since 2007 servicing hundreds of partners and over a million local retail investors. The next stage of our growth in New Zealand is expanding our B2B partnerships with our leading, world class technology solutions.”
