Indian Prime minister and host of G20 Summit Narendra Modi has said on Saturday that the body had reached consensus on its leaders’ declaration and announced its adoption.

“I have received good news. Due to the hard work of our team, consensus has been built on New Delhi G20 Leaders’ Summit Declaration. My proposal is to adopt this leadership declaration. I announce to adopt this declaration. On this occasion, I congratulate my Sherpa, ministers, who worked hard for it and made it possible…,” PM Modi said.

Key focus area

G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant said the New Delhi Leaders Declaration focuses on five key aspects.

These are: Strong, sustainable, balanced and inclusive growth; Accelerating progress on sustainable development goals (SDGs); Green development pact for a sustainable future; Multilateral institutions for the 21st century; Reinvigorating multilateralism.

Taking it to social media platform X, Sherpa Amitabh Kant also said, “The #NewDelhiLeadersDeclaration has been officially adopted at the #G20India Leaders’ Summit! Today’s era must be marked as the golden age of human-centric globalisation & India’s G20 Presidency under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi has worked tirelessly towards this goal.

It is to be noted that India’s G20 Presidency has been the most ambitious in history of G-20.

With 112 outcomes and presidency documents, India have more than doubled the substantive work from previous presidencies.

These includes 73 outcomes (lines of effort) and 39 annexed documents (presidency documents, not including Working Group outcome documents).

Earlier at the Summit, PM had highlighted that keeping in mind the challenge of climate change, energy transition is a significant need of the 21st century world. “Trillions of dollars are required for an inclusive energy transition. Naturally, developed countries play a very crucial role in this,” he said.

India also announced the launch of a global biofuel alliance at a G20 summit. This was to boost the use of cleaner fuels.

PM highlighted that the alliance would help accelerate global efforts to meet net zero emissions targets by facilitating trade in biofuels derived from sources including plant and animal waste.

“We are launching the Global Biofuel Alliance. India invites all of you to join this initiative,” PM said.
