Cronos (CRO) Mainnet is gearing up for the Pallene upgrade, aimed at enhancing transaction processing and leveraging the latest Cosmos SDK and CometBFT. The upgrade is scheduled for block height 17,155,000.

The Cronos (CRO) Mainnet is preparing for a significant upgrade named ‘Pallene’, which promises to introduce parallel transaction processing alongside several other enhancements. This upgrade will leverage the latest innovations from the Cosmos SDK and CometBFT, according to Cronos Labs.

Upgrade Details

The Pallene upgrade is scheduled to occur at block height 17,155,000, which is anticipated around Thursday, December 12, 2024, at 6 AM GMT (2 PM HKT/SGT). The upgrade’s timing is contingent upon the progress of block production, and stakeholders can monitor the estimated time via the Cronos Explorer.

During the upgrade process, the Cronos network will experience a downtime of approximately 60 minutes. This pause will affect all Cronos services, including the mainnet network, public RPCs, Explorer, and Cronos bridge, which will be temporarily halted and resumed following the upgrade’s completion.

Impact on End-users

End-users can expect the chain to be upgraded at the precise block height of 17,155,000. Once the upgrade block height is reached, node operators are required to update their node binaries to maintain synchronization with the chain. The network will experience a brief pause until the majority of validators complete their upgrades, ensuring all data remains intact.

Instructions for Node Operators

Node operators must prepare to upgrade to the latest ‘cronosd’ binary version 1.4.0 once the target block height is achieved. It is crucial not to upgrade to this version before reaching the specified block height, as doing so would result in incompatibility. Detailed upgrade instructions are provided in the official upgrade guide.

For further inquiries or assistance regarding the upgrade, stakeholders are encouraged to connect with the Cronos team via the #cronos-mainnet channel on the Cronos Discord server.

This upgrade is part of Cronos Labs’ continuous efforts to enhance network performance and scalability, laying the groundwork for future developments within the blockchain ecosystem.
