Benchmark equity index Sensex closed with gains for the sixth consecutive session on Tuesday while Nifty50 hit a record high for the second session in a row, led by HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and Power Grid Corporation.
The BSE benchmark Sensex advanced 349 points or 0.48% to settle at 73,057. The broader NSE Nifty surged 75 points or 0.34% to end at 22,197.
Blue-chip stocks Power Grid, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, NTPC, and Kotak Bank were the top Sensex gainers, rising 2-4%. On the other hand, TCS, JSW Steel, HCL Tech, Bajaj Finserv, and Maruti Suzuki closed with cuts.
Smallcap stock Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services closed 14% higher after the company announced that it had entered into an agreement with EasyMyTrip Planners Limited for three years. Zaggle and EaseMyTrip will offer integrated travel and expense management solutions to corporate clients.
Tourism Finance Corporation closed in a 5% upper circuit amid reports of a block deal executed on the counter.
Nifty Bank and Financial Services closed over 1% higher each, led by HDFC Bank, Axis Bank, and Kotak Bank. Nifty Media, on the other hand, closed over 2% higher, led by Zee Entertainment Enterprise, and TV18 Broadcast.
In the broader market, Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap fell 0.13% and 0.53%, respectively.
The market breadth was skewed in the favour of the bulls. About 1,949 stocks gained, 1,887 declined, and 95 remained unchanged on the BSE.
