Genesis today announced the release of version 8.1 of the Genesis Application Platform, which brings developers a set of powerful new tools that streamline application development and elevate application capabilities.

Coming just 30 days after the 8.0 release, it also marks the beginning of a new, monthly cadence by which Genesis will formally deploy new tools and features for users.

New functionality in 8.1 is found across the platform’s Development Suite, Application Runtime environment and component Marketplace.

“Our priority is to make it faster for developers to experience that ‘eureka’ moment when they fully grasp the platform’s capabilities,” said Tej Sidhu, Chief Technology Officer at Genesis.

The platform enhancements in 8.1 stem from extensive industry engagement and user feedback. The platform trial and Sandbox program launched by Genesis makes it easier than ever before for developers at dealers, asset managers and consultancies to experience Genesis. In supporting trials and client users, Genesis identifies the tools and features which would further aid developers and ease platform onboarding.

For example, Bank of America, BNY and Citi, strategic partners with Genesis, observed that their developer teams would benefit from faster ways to initiate Genesis projects and new tools to address the challenges in creating user interfaces. In response, Genesis deployed Create, a web-based tool to start projects and get new applications running in minutes and View, a tool to convert screenshots into web UI code to add and update interfaces throughout an application. Updates to Create are part of the 8.1 release.

Platform updates from Genesis pay immediate dividends to users. In a recent Sandbox experiment, a consulting firm noted that the application built in one day with Genesis would have taken them weeks with other coding methodologies.

Enhancements in 8.1 help users address a diverse set of financial business requirements and use cases, from replacing spreadsheets and automating manual processes to creating applications to act like ‘scaffolding’ to enhance vendor systems to building new innovative services.

8.1 release highlights

  • Reconciliation component: a lightweight component joins the Matcher solution in the Marketplace to give developers more choice in how they bring reconciliation capabilities to their applications. The new component allows users to configure UI elements, rules and workflows and the business logic of integrating data sources and identifying breaks.
  • Straight-through data integration: improved integration to external REST APIs makes it seamless for developers to connect Genesis applications to data lakes, data fabrics and other sources, without needing to persist a copy.
  • Local development performance: a 30%+ reduction in memory usage on local machines facilitates better performance and a more productive local environment.
  • Accessibility compliance: improvements enhance how Genesis applications conform to W3C accessibility standards, helping the visually impaired.
  • Updates to Genesis Create: enhancements to user entitlements configuration, table views and unit testing for event handlers improve the quality of applications users can deploy using Create.
  • Improved Angular support: expanded adherence to Angular conventions helps developers work efficiently in their preferred UI framework while using Genesis and Create.

The Genesis platform is engineered to deliver full-stack applications requiring high-performance transaction processing, event-driven workflows, real-time data integrations and rich, interactive user experiences.
