India’s Wholesale Inflation for the month of July is recorded at 2.04%, as announced by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday.
Previous month, June’s Wholesale Inflation stood at 3.36%, largely driven by the costlier vegetables, the month on month basis change is 0.84%.
Retail Inflation eased to 3.54% this month, such a decline as economists point is due to the base effect when July 2023’s retail inflation number was 7.44%.

WPI measures the average change in prices of goods at the wholesale level.
In July, the category of primary article containing food items saw a marked increase, with prices rising by 3.13% compared to the previous month. This surge was particularly evident in food articles, where prices spiked by 3.90%.
On the other hand, the fuel and power sector rose by 0.14% in July. Despite this marginal increase, the overall inflation in this category remained relatively low at 1.72%.
The manufactured goods sector, which holds the highest weight in the WPI, saw a decline of 0.14%.
The WPI Food Index, which combines food articles from the primary articles category and food products from the manufactured goods category, rose from 190.3 in June to 195.4.
Despite this month-on-month increase, the year-on-year inflation for the food index dropped from 8.68% in June to 3.55% in July.
