What is UPI
Unified Payments Interface (UPI) is an instant real-time payment system, allowing users to transfer money on a real-time basis, across multiple bank accounts without revealing details of one’s bank account to the other party.
Over the past two years, many countries have started accepting payments through UPI apps.
Here is a list of countries where Indians can use UPI to make payments.
According to the Embassy of India Oman press release, “This MoU will enable the acceptance of Indian RuPay cards issued by banks in India at all OmanNet network ATMs, POS & E-commerce sites; as well as reciprocal acceptance of Oman cards/MPCSS in the networks of NPCI in India. The MOU will also enable building partnerships for real-time cross border remittances between India and Oman using UPI rails.”
An Indian visitor visiting Mauritius would be able to use UPI to make payments to local businesses because to this connectivity. In a similar vein, a Mauritius tourist using the Instant Payment System (IPS) app would be able to accomplish the same thing in India.
RuPay
Additionally, the use of RuPay technology will allow banks in Mauritius to issue RuPay cards locally through the MauCAS card network. The digital payments connectivity with Sri Lanka will enable Indian travellers to make QR code-based payments at merchant locations in Sri Lanka using their UPI apps.Nepali users can make a bank transfer to India with a unified payment interface (UPI) ID through mobile bankingThe famous Eiffel Tower in Paris, France is now officially offering India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) service.

How does UPI function overseas?
People must first register their bank account with a UPI-enabled mobile application in order to make UPI payments in Sri Lanka and Mauritius. Users are requested to enter recipient details, including their bank account number, and other details, as well as the transfer amount and currency, when the bank account is linked.
UPI services were made available in Paris, France’s Eiffel Tower, earlier this month. By scanning a QR code on the Eiffel Tower website, Indian visitors can pay using their UPI-enabled application.
The first nation to introduce cross-border Person to Person (P2P) payment services is Singapore. India and Singapore launched a connection between UPI and PayNow in February of last year.
Through quick and inexpensive money transfers from Singapore to India and vice versa, this will assist the Indian diaspora in Singapore. Certain commercial establishments in Singapore have already enabled the acceptance of UPI payments using QR codes.
