NAVI MUMBAI: The wife of a BARC employee from New Panvel was duped of Rs 1.93 crore to a gang of cyber fraudsters offering huge returns on stock market trading.

An FIR of cheating has been registered against nine people on Feb 20. According to the FIR, on Dec 7 last year, a link was sent on WhatsAppby one Ritu Vohra promising huge returns on stock market trading. The woman opened the link and got added to a WhatsApp group. The group admin posted a message that stock market trading was being done by the company ‘Indira Security Pvt Ltd’ and in case investors incur any loss, the company would bear it.

Vora gave her several options to invest in companies and made her transfer money to a bank account. On Jan 16, as the woman invested in share trading, she was made to send the screen shot of payment done to a WhatsApp group ‘Indira Customer Care K367’, where her virtual account showed returns of Rs 12 lakh on investment of Rs 60 lakh. She transferred Rs 50 lakh to her bank account, thus gaining her trust. Thereafter, she was offered to invest more amount in stock trading and she gradually invested of Rs 1.92 crore till Feb 1.

As her virtual account showed huge returns, she attempted transfer the money, but could not as her savings bank account was frozen.

She contacted her bank and learnt that her bank account had been frozen as one Harsh from Telengana had lodged a complaint with Telangana police alleging that he had been cheated in stock trading scam.

As she was unable to withdraw money, she texted Vora about withdrawing her money, but got no response.
