The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) on Tuesday signed five MoUs worth ₹4.07 lakh crore. CM Devendra Fadnavis, who attended the India Global Forum event where the MoUs were signed, said that because of the MoUs, MMRDA will not face any funding issues for its various infrastructure projects such as drinking water supply projects, highways, metro, roads and tunnels. He mentioned that the objective of making the Mumbai Metropolitan Region a $1.5 trillion economy will receive a significant boost due to these MoUs.

At the event, an agreement worth ₹1.5 lakh crore was signed between MMRDA and HUDCO for infrastructure development. Additionally, MoUs worth ₹1 lakh crore each were signed with REC, PFC, and IRFC (Indian Railway Finance Corporation), and ₹7,000 crore with the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development. An MoU was also signed to set up a Global Capability Centre for Unilever’s Magnum Ice Cream business in Pune. An investment of ₹900 crore will be made in this centre, and 500 jobs will be provided.

Dy CM Eknath Shinde, who is urban development minister, said in three yea₹MoUs worth ₹20 lakh crore were signed at the World Economic Forum in Davos, which is a record. ‘This year, MMRDA has signed and followed up on MoUs worth ₹3.5 lakh crore in Davos. These MoUs will give a big boost to the development of Mumbai and its surrounding areas,’ he said.
