The Appointments Committee of Cabinet has announced the appointment of Poonam Gupta as the RBI Deputy Governor. The Government of India has approved the appointment of Poonam Gupta, who is the Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research in New Delhi, as the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). She will hold this position for three years from the date she joins or until further notice
Gupta was the Lead Economist for Global Macro and Market Research at Policy, where she oversaw policy research on India.
She was also a Professor at the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations, a Professor at the Delhi School of Economics, and an International Monetary Fund researcher.
Gupta has earned a Master’s Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Maryland in the United States, as well as a Master’s degree in Economics from the Delhi School of Economics at Delhi University.
