NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu, on Wednesday, hoped for a positive conversation on policies and hailed the government’s key action.
In her first address in the joint sitting of both Houses of Parliament, the President said, “This is my first address in the new Parliament building. This new (Parliament) building was constructed during the beginning of the ‘Amrit Kaal’ and it has the essence of ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’.”
“I am confident that we will have a positive discussion in this new (Parliament) building,” she added.
She recalled the achievements that India saw and said that this is the extension of the practices of the last 10 years. India had heard the slogan of ‘Gareebi Hatao’ since childhood, “Today, for the first time in our lives, we see poverty being alleviated on a large scale.”
Reflecting on a historic milestone, President Murmu said: “Building of Ram temple has been a dream of centuries, it is a reality now.”
She also talked about the abrogation of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.
President Murmu referenced data from NITI Aayog, indicating substantial progress in poverty alleviation during her government’s tenure. Approximately 25 crore people have reportedly emerged from poverty over the span of a decade, a testament to the administration’s socio-economic policies.
Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu arrived in a buggy at Parliament House to deliver her address.
The President entered the House with the ‘sengol’ being carried in front of her. She was followed by Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

- President Murmu lauded the defence production which crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark and also stated that ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ have become the strengths of India.
- Hailing India’s economy, President Murmu said that India became the fastest growing major economy and its growth rate has been more than 7.5% for two consecutive quarters. She also talked about the largest sea bridge, Atal Setu, NaMo Bharat train and first Amrit Bharat train. “India’s airline company signs world’s largest aircraft deal,” she added.
- Today, 46 percent of the world’s total real-time digital transactions take place in India. Last month, a record 1200 crore transactions took place through UPI. Under this, a record transaction of Rs 18 lakh crore took place.
- She recalled the Covid time and said that when the world was witnessing two major wars and faced a global pandemic like coronavirus, despite such global crises, the government kept inflation under control in the country, did not allow the burden of the common Indian to increase.
- Appreciating the banking system of India, the President said, “We have one of the strongest banking systems in the world.”
- Addressing the joint Parliament, President Murmu said that whether it was terrorism or expansionism, Indian forces are responding with a ‘tit for tat’ policy. There is an environment of security in Jammu and Kashmir today. “Today there is no silence of the strike, there is hustle and bustle of a crowded market. There has been a huge decline in the incidents of separatism in North-East,” She added.
