HDFC Bank has modified the loyalty program for specific credit cards. The updated regulations will take effect on September 1, 2024. A notification regarding these changes was sent to the relevant customers via email by the bank.

New HDFC Bank credit card rules from August 1, 2024: New charges, late payment fee, bill payment rules, and more

The following revisions to your HDFC Bank Credit Card will apply from September 1, 2024, as per the email sent by the bank:

1. Reward Points earned on Utility transactions will be capped at 2000 Reward Points per calendar month.
2. Reward Points earned on Telecom & Cable transactions will be capped at 2000 Reward Points per calendar month.
3. Education payments made through third-party apps like (but not limited to) CRED, Cheq, MobiKwik, and others will NOT earn Reward Points. However, education payments made directly through college/school websites or their POS machines will earn Reward Points.
4. Wallet loading and Easy EMI transactions will not earn Reward Points.
Note: The Merchant Category Codes (MCC) are set by the network (Visa, MasterCard, Rupay, Diners), not by HDFC Bank.

HDFC Bank has made major revisions to other credit card related transactions as well. Here is a look at those changes which are applicable from August 1, 2024.

Fuel Charges
1% fee will be levied on Fuel transaction exceeding – Rs 15,000 for consumer cards Rs.30,000 for business cards Fee will be applied on the total transacted amount. Fee capped at Rs 3000 per transaction. (w.e.f 1st August’24).

Utility Charges
1% fee will be levied on utility transactions exceeding Rs 50,000 for consumer cards per transaction Rs.75,000 for business cards per transaction Fee will be applied on the total transacted amount. Fee capped at Rs 3000 per transaction. (w.e.f 1st August’24)

Education Charges
1% fee will be levied on Education transactions done through third party applications like (but not limited to) CRED, PhonePe, No-broker, Cheq etc. Fee capped at Rs 3000 per transaction Education transactions done directly through college / school websites or through POS machines at their premises will not be charged.

International Education transactions will not be charge (w.e.f 1st August’24)
The Card Member can use HDFC Bank International Credit Card to pay bills, fees, and bookings and to shop online or in stores. Sometimes, the member banks that work with these places charge a fee for using your card. This fee may be changed by member banks and added to your bill. HDFC Bank doesn’t control these fees, so you must pay them.
