Indian equity index Sensex closed flat after lacklustre trade on Friday, dragged down by shares of Tata Consultancy Services and State Bank of India, while benchmark Nifty50 hit a new record high for the fifth consecutive session in early trade.
The BSE benchmark Sensex fell 15 points or 0.02% to settle at 73,143. The broader NSE Nifty dropped 5 points or 0.02% to end at 22,212.
Among blue-chip Sensex stocks, HCL Tech, Maruti, Asian Paints, Airtel, and TCS were the top laggards, falling over 1% each. While Bajaj Finserv, M&M, Titan, Wipro, and Reliance Industries closed higher.
Vodafone Idea shares closed nearly 8% higher after the company said that its board is scheduled to meet on February 27 to consider and evaluate options to raise funds through the equity route.
Sona BLW Precision Forgings shares also closed 6% higher after the auto component maker received certification under the auto Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme.
Sector-wise, Nifty PSU Bank fell 1.15%, dragged by Indian Overseas Bank, Punjab and Sind Bank, and Bank of Baroda. Nifty FMCG, IT, Metal, and Oil & Gas also closed in the red.
Meanwhile, the more domestically focused Nifty Smallcap100 and Midcap100 added about 0.3% each.
