You moved into your new home and while you loved it… it had some quirks. The front door opened directly into the kitchen (which only has two cabinets) and, for reasons only the 1970s can explain, the second bathroom was carpeted. But, it was home and you got used to it.
Then one day you looked around and realized that with some careful planning and some new YNAB categories, you could make the upgrades you’ve always wanted. Heck, maybe throw in a fresh coat of paint while you’re at it.
That’s exactly what’s happened in YNAB. We’ve done some remodeling to make it more useful and lay the groundwork for even more improvements to come. So let’s talk about what’s moved and improved in the app!
Welcome Home
Think about the spot by your front door—the place where you always set your keys, wallet, or glance in the mirror before heading out. That’s the Home tab: the essentials, right where you need them, giving you a quick snapshot of what matters most. Your priorities will dictate what you’ll see, with an at-a-glance view of how you’re spending.
The Home tab is the place where you can:
- See alerts for actions you should take in your plan
- Pin categories you want to keep an eye on
- Find out what it costs to be you
- Follow your progress toward your targets this month
- Work toward getting a month ahead
This command center is an iteration on the old Spotlight feature, but with even more functionality than before!
It’s All For You
First, if you take a stroll to the bottom of Home, check out the For You section. We’re taking the best of YNAB content and curating it just for you. Find relevant and timely blog articles, videos, podcasts, and more. You don’t even have to leave the app!
We’re especially excited about this improvement, because this means you’ll start seeing familiar (or soon-to-be familiar) YNAB faces right in the app. And there’s a handy link to reach out to our support team if a conversation with a YNAB expert is what’s needed to keep your plan on track.
Add Transactions in a Snap
You’ll also find a quick and easy Add Transaction button that’s always accessible. Same number of taps from opening the app to adding your transaction to your plan as always, but now it’s here with all the most important information about your plan.
And, if you happen to be somewhere else in YNAB when you need to add a transaction, there are now nine different ways inside and outside the app to get transactions into your plan.
So, what are you keeping by your front door? Do you pin your Groceries category in your Home? Maybe it’s that vacation category that always makes you smile as you see the balance go up. Your Home, your rules!
Home away from home
As great as home is, sometimes you’re on the go and just need to peek at a category balance before making a purchase. The grocery store has that fancy ice cream you love, but is it in your plan or should you quickly move some money?
On iOS devices, you can now ask Siri, “How much is available for groceries in YNAB?,” and you’ll see your balance. Tap your balance to jump into YNAB to move money or add a transaction to that category.
Hey, thanks Siri.
But that’s not all. When you update to iOS 26, you’ll also be able to use Apple Shortcuts to have your plan pop up at the places you spend most often.
• Want your phone to show you your groceries balance when you arrive at the grocery store? You can build a shortcut for that.
• Want your phone to ask you for the transaction amount and then automatically add a transaction when you leave the grocery store? Build a shortcut.
• Want to see how much is left in your Dining Out category when you open DoorDash? Yep, you guessed it, you can build a shortcut.
With a little bit of setup, your plan will be there to help whenever spending decisions pop up!
A new home for your spendful decisions
Spending is at the center of your financial life, so now it’s at the center of the app. The Spending tab is where you can go to see all of your transactions, past and present.
Even better, the Spending tab has a newly supercharged search to help you find the name of that cute restaurant you went to that one time, or the date when you bought the water heater that’s suddenly acting up.

So there you have it, all the changes to YNAB on your phone. Like with any good remodel, we’ll all open the wrong cabinet a few times until we retrain our muscle memory. But we believe that today’s YNAB is the best it’s ever been.
