Newly appointed Reserve Bank governor Sanjay Malhotra on Tuesday said that he will work towards what is best for the economy when he takes charge at the central bank.
Malhotra will take charge as the 26th RBI governor on Wednesday. “This is a completely new role and one has to understand the turf…will work to understand all the perspectives and will work on what is best for the economy,” he told reporters on the last day of his office at the North Block, which houses the ministry of finance.
Malhotra succeeds Shaktikanta Das who completed his term as the governor Tuesday.
A 1990-batch IAS officer of the Rajasthan cadre, Malhotra, has more than three decades of experience in public policy with expertise in areas like power, finance, and taxation.
