India’s Wholesale Inflation in June 2024 has been recorded at 3.36% opposed to 2.61% in the previous month of May, according to the government data released on Monday.
The annual rate of inflation (y-o-y) based on WPI Food Index increased from 7.40% in May, 2024 to 8.68% in June, 2024. The month over month change in WPI for the month of June, 2024 stood at 0.39% as compared to May, 2024.
“Positive rate of inflation in June, 2024 is primarily due to increase in prices of food articles, manufacture of food products, crude petroleum & natural gas, mineral oils, other manufacturing etc,” stated the press release by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India.
The Food Index, which includes ‘food articles’ from the Primary Articles group and ‘food products’ from the Manufactured Products group, increased from 185.7 in May 2024 to 190.3 in June 2024.
The index for Primary Articles, which includes food and minerals, rose by 2.08% in June 2024. Prices of food articles increased by 2.96%, while prices for non-food articles and crude petroleum & natural gas declined.
For Fuel & Power, the index dropped by 1.93%, with electricity and mineral oil prices decreasing.
In the Manufactured Products category, the index saw a slight increase of 0.14%. Out of 22 categories, prices rose in 8, fell in 10, and remained unchanged in 4.
