Trichy: Two women of Trichy city have lost around 24 lakh to online fraudsters.

A 65-year-old woman from Ponmalaipatti, in her complaint on National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP), said she opened a link (Esky ticketing) received on her Telegram on Dec 8 and it suggested to buy tickets and win profit.

She paid 10,500 and made 18,000 in the initial instant. Subsequently she paid 16.51 lakh in various transactions till Jan 5 using the link but did not make any money.

Realising that she was cheated, the woman lodged a complaint on NCRP, and it was forwarded to Trichy cybercrime police.

Police also received a complaint from a 34-year-old woman from Karumandapam on Friday that she lost 7.33 lakh to online fraudsters.

An employee in private company, the woman said she received a call on WhatsApp about an online part-time job on reviewing hotels. She wrote a review and received 203 and 150 as payments.

As suggested by the caller, she joined a Telegram group. As per instructions in the group, she invested 7.33 lakh in various instances till Mar 31. She realised that she was deceived and lodged the complaint.

Police registered two cases against unidentified people under sections of IPC and the Information Technology Act.
