As the voting for Lok Sabha Election 2024 will begin from April 19 and the results will be declared on June 4, 2024, many banks will be closed on the election day in their respective cities, according to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) holiday calendar for 2024. Some states have already declared paid or a public holidays for residents on voting day.

Which cities banks will be closed for election on April 19

Lok Sabha General Elections 2024/Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Election 2024/Bye-Election to Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from Vilavancode Constituency, Kanniyakumari District:
Banks in cities of Chennai, Dehradun, Itanagar, Jaipur, Kohima, Nagpur, and Shillong will be closed on April 19, 2024.

Election phases
The elections will be held in seven stages. The first phase will be held on April 19, the second on April 26, the third on May 7, the fourth on May 13, the fifth on May 20, the sixth on May 25, and the seventh phase on June 1, 2024.

Uttarakhand
The Uttarakhand government has declared April 19, the day of voting, a public holiday ahead of the nation’s Lok Sabha elections.
The Uttarakhand government’s General Administration Department issued the directive on Tuesday.

Nagaland
The Home Department of Nagaland has announced that all employees of government, private, and business establishments in the state of Nagaland will receive paid time off on Friday, April 19, 2024, the day of voting, in order to allow them to participate and exercise their right to vote. This is in accordance with Section 135B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 and in anticipation of the upcoming General Election to the Lok Sabha.

Tamil Nadu
The Tamil Nadu government announced a public holiday on April 19, in light of the general elections planned in all 39 Lok Sabha seats and the by poll for the Vilavancode Assembly constituency.

April 19 elections in these states
Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Jammu and Kashmir, Lakshadweep, Puducherry.

However, the RBI has not declared a bank holiday for all these states yet except the states mentioned above.

April bank holidays
The Reserve Bank of India has categorised bank holidays into three categories: Negotiable Instruments Act Holidays, Real Time Gross Settlement Holidays, and Bank Account Closing Holidays.

April 20 ( third Saturday)- Garia Puja: Banks are closed in Tripura.
