NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called on MPs to forget all past bitterness and start a new chapter, asserting that whatever they are going to do in the new complex, should be an inspiration for every citizen in the country.

The Prime Minister said the new Parliament building reflects the aspirations of 140 crore Indians. “When we are starting a new chapter, we should forget all past bitterness,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi introduced the women’s reservation bill in the new Parliament building. Named as Nari Shakti Vandan, PM Minister, while addressing the Lok Sabha MPs, said that God has choses him to fulfill the women quota bill.

“World is witnessing contribution made by Indian women in different aspects of life from sports to startups. World has also recognised the women-led development process in country. We want that more and more women join the development process of the country, PM Modi said while introducing the Women’s quota bill.

“The ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ will ensure more women become members of Parliament, assemblies,” PM Modi said.

Union law minister Arjun Ram Meghwal tabled Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha amid opposition uproar.

Here are the key points of the women’s reservation bill:

  • The Women’s Reservation Bill seeks to reserve 33% of seats in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies for women.
  • In Lok Sabha, one-third of the total number of seats will be reserved for women. It applies to the legislative assemblies of all Indian states.
