Sanjeev Nautiyal

Sanjeev Nautiyal, former deputy managing director of State Bank of India, will be taking the reins at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank from July 1 as the bank’s managing director and chief executive officer.

The Reserve Bank of India has approved his appointment for a period of three years.

Nautiyal will however join the bank much before July 1 and be designated as the president in the interim, and work with current managing director Ittira Davis to ensure a smooth leadership transition. The exact date of joining is still being worked out.

The board has respected the wishes of Mr Davis to be released a few months prior to his original expiry of term, the company said.

Ujjivan with a gross loan book of Rs 29,779 crore and a deposit base of Rs 31,650 crore at the end of March is one of the bigger small finance banks in the country.

“I am delighted that RBI has approved the appointment of Mr. Nautiyal. I welcome him to the Ujjivan family. He is a strategic retail banker with an all-round experience in both the domestic and international markets,” Ujjivan chairman BA Prabhakar was quoted as saying in a press statement.

Nautiyal had also headed SBI Life for two years in his career spanning 36 years, before retirement. Nautiyal holds a master’s degree in business administration.

“The transformation of Ujjivan from an NBFC-MFI to a very successful bank, makes it ready to chart new frontiers of financial and digital inclusion. I look forward to working with Team Ujjivan and all the stakeholders,” he stated.
