Minister Goyal was speaking at the curtain raiser for the ‘Startup Mahakumbh’

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal on Tuesday said the startups in India are changing, and believed that they are going to be the backbone of new India.

“It’s our time under the sun, and the sun is rising, and I hope we don’t miss the bus,” he said.

Minister Goyal was speaking at the curtain raiser for the ‘Startup Mahakumbh’ which is set to held from March 18 to 20, 2024 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

“Startup world is all about big ambitions, big potential, the ability to think out of the box, and innovate ideas,” he said.

The ‘can do’ spirit will be reflected at the Startup Mahakumbh, the minister asserted.

Young India to shape India’s destiny in Amritkaal

In his address, Minister Piyush Goyal asked the organisers to invite thousands of students with a bent of mind towards entrepreneurship, innovation to visit the exhibitions at the Bharat Mandapam.

“It is this young India which will shape India’s destiny in this Amritkaal as we transition towards $3.5 Trillion economy to a $35 Trillion Dollar economy when we will celebrate 100 years of independence in 2047,” he said.

He said that in today’s India, all men and women coming out from colleges are not job seekers necessarily, many of them aim to be job creators.

Startups from small habitations

Piyush Goyal also highlighted his experience of working with startups coming out from from Tier II and III cities and said many startups are coming from very small habitiations.

“Our efforts should be aligned in such a way that startups from the small districts can also come and showcase here. The effort should be to bring on platform the India story,” he said.

Further talking about the Bharat Mandapam, he said the structure is truly a showcase of the new India that we have all wished to be a part of.

“We have drilled down to think how this can become India’s story for the rest of the world, and for our fellow indians to encourage them to think big,” he said.

“The amazing shift from the traditional thinking about mega events is possible because of such infrastructure. Earlier, we coudn’t even think of having mega events,” he said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had once said, we moved events our of the tents into proper organised facility, possibly somewhat like moving Prabhu Shri Ram out from the tent to a gigantic temple in Ayodya, the Commerce Minister said.

The Startup Mahakumbh is aimed to be one of the largest get-together of startups, unicorns, soonicorns, investors, industry and ecosystem stakeholders; all under one roof to showcase the India story in entrepreneurship, technology, and innovation.

The mega startup event will also serve as a platform for exchange of ideas that contribute to building a robust and resilient startup ecosystem in India.
